Description |
The Eagle Nebula is also known as M16
for Charles Messier who catalogued it in 1764, it was
discovered by Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1745. Have
you ever seen the "Pillars of Creation" picture taken by
Hubble? Well, they are here in the center of this
picture but without the astounding detail of the Hubble
picture. This is a star forming region in the Milky Way
that is perhaps only 2 Million years old. It is about
7000 light years from us in another arm of the Milky
Way. |
Processing |
The picture is a combination of 6 shots
of 4 minutes each at ISO 1600. Taken from our driveway,
using an ST4 autoguider connected to an AP guide scope
mounted on top of an AP 160. A Losmandy G11 mount held
everything steady and an IDAS light pollution filter
helped keep the interesting parts of the picture from
being drowned out by city lights. Pictures
aligned, combined and contrast enhanced in ImagesPlus. |
