Description |
The Dumbbell Nebula (M27) is about 1200 light
years away and is thought to represent the state that
our own sun will achieve near the end of its lifespan.
When a sun dies, it sheds its outer layers in an
expanding cloud of gas (called a planetary nebula). The
gas is illuminated by the central star. |
